Ledbury Poetry receives 100% increase in funding from Arts Council England

Arts Council EnglandLedbury Poetry receives 100% increase in funding Arts Council England announced on Friday, renewing its national portfolio status for another three years.

The Arts Council’s investment is a huge vote of confidence in Ledbury Poetry. It is a positive endorsement of Ledbury Poetry’s achievements as a year-round provider of programmes, workshops and public engagements celebrating poetry in all its forms, culminating in the UK-leading Ledbury Poetry Festival each summer.

The uplift grant will enable Ledbury Poetry to continue this work and develop new initiatives. Significantly, its exciting plans for Ledbury Poetry House as a catalyst for work with communities locally, nationally and internationally that will cement Ledbury’s reputation as the home of poetry in the UK.

Peter Knott, Area Director for Arts Council England said: “For more than 25 years, Ledbury Poetry Festival has been hosting events from live readings to performances, workshops to exhibitions and we’re delighted to be increasing our investment in them over the next three years. It will be great to see them continue to grow their audiences and inspire poets and literature-enthusiasts alike.”

Ledbury Poetry is Inclusive, International, Inspirational

Ledbury Poetry creates live and online programmes throughout the year culminating in Ledbury Poetry Festival each July (30th June – 9th July 2023). Now in its 26th year, it is the largest and most international celebration of poetry and spoken word in the UK.

The annual Ledbury Poetry Competition runs 1st April – 24th August 2022. The Judge is Joelle Taylor, winner of the T.S. Eliot Prize. Prizes include £1,000 and a week’s poetry course with our partner, Arvon.

Ledbury Poetry Critics is a scheme that mentors 12 critics of colour each year. The programme was founded in 2017 by Ledbury Poetry with Sandeep Parmar and Sarah Howe.
