GET YOUR WORDS OUT!
There is a word for fear of public speaking: glossophobia. It’s common. The terror is real. But if you are a writer and would love to read your work in public – it’s time to kick that terror in the teeth.
Cheryl Powell, a writer and former member of the Public Speakers Association, has competed in speech competitions at national level – and, yes, she still gets nervous.
Her one-day workshop aims to give you the tools you need to find your own voice and face an audience with confidence. In this one-day, supportive workshop, you will be able to:
- Practise reading your work in a friendly environment and get helpful feedback
- Learn techniques to enhance your performance – g. breath, gesture, pace, rapport
- Discuss how to tune your work to a live audience
- Support others in the group as they read their work
Please bring a poem or piece of your own work to read, max 500 words, or an extract from somebody else’s work that you really like.
(Please contact director@ledburypoetry.org.uk if you need a subsidised place on this workshop)
